Bahrain
In Bahrain, the construction of a large plant using the process of thermal desalination by multiple effect distillation (MED) is in progress, with production capacity of 273,000 cubic metres per day. The process used is based on multiple effect distillation (MED), itself based on the evaporation and condensation of seawater inside a series of chambers under vacuum. Evaporating the water in these chambers separates it from the salts it contains. The Bahrain plant will be combined with the Al Hidd power station, re-using the low pressure steam it produces to supply the ten desalination units, each capable of producing 27,300 cubic metres per day of drinking water.
