Early 2007 marked the signing of a contract to build, finance and operate the reverse osmosis seawater desalination plant in Sur, in the Sultanate of Oman.
This contract consolidates Veolia's presence in the region by providing its expertise as an international operator in terms of design, build and operation of desalination plants. Awarded by Oman's Ministry of National Economy, the contract has a 22-year term. The plant, with a capacity of 80,200 cubic metres per day, will enable mains water to be supplied to the 350,000 inhabitants of the Sharqiyah region. Veolia is working on the contract in consortium with Bahwan Engineering Company. Veolia is responsible for process design and equipment purchasing. Bahwan Engineering Company is responsible for construction and the installation of the equipment.
